Nearest Neighbor Queries in a
نویسندگان
چکیده
Nearest neighbor queries have received much interest in recent years due to their increased importance in advanced database applications. However, past work has addressed such queries in a static setting. In this paper we consider instead a dynamic setting where data objects move continuously. Such a mobile spatiotemporal environment is motivated by real life applications in traac management, intelligent navigation and cellular communication systems. We consider two versions of nearest neighbor queries depending on whether the temporal predicate is a single time instant or an interval. For example: \\nd the closest object to a given object o after 10 minutes from now", or, \\nd the object that will be the closest to object o between 10 and 15 minutes from now". Since data objects move continuously it is ineecient to update the database about their position at each time instant. Instead our approach is to employ methods that store the motion function of each object and answer nearest neighbor queries by eeciently searching through these methods.

Search Space Reductions for Nearest-Neighbor Queries
The vast number of applications featuring multimedia and geometric data has made the R-tree a ubiquitous data structure in databases. A popular and fundamental operation on R-trees is nearest neighbor search. While nearest neighbor on R-trees has received considerable experimental attention, it has received somewhat less theoretical consideration. We study pruning heuristics for nearest neighbo...
متن کاملConstrained Nearest Neighbor Queries
In this paper we introduce the notion of constrained nearest neighbor queries (CNN) and propose a series of methods to answer them. This class of queries can be thought of as nearest neighbor queries with range constraints. Although both nearest neighbor and range queries have been analyzed extensively in previous literature, the implications of constrained nearest neighbor queries have not bee...

متن کاملReverse Nearest Neighbor Queries for Dynamic Databases
In this paper we propose an algorithm for answering reverse nearest neighbor (RNN) queries, a problem formulated only recently. This class of queries is strongly related to that of nearest neighbor (NN) queries, although the two are not necessarily complementary. Unlike nearest neighbor queries, RNN queries nd the set of database points that have the query point as the nearest neighbor. There i...
متن کاملApproximate Nearest Neighbor Queries among Parallel Segments
We develop a data structure for answering efficiently approximate nearest neighbor queries over a set of parallel segments in three dimensions. We connect this problem to approximate nearest neighbor searching under weight constraints and approximate nearest neighbor searching on historical data in any dimension and give efficient solutions for these as well.
متن کاملΕ-isa: an Incremental Lower Bound Approach for Efficiently Finding Approximate Nearest Neighbor of Complex Vague Queries
In our context, a complex vague query means a multifeature nearest neighbor query. Answering such queries requires the system to search on some feature spaces individually and then combine the searching results to find the final answers. The feature spaces are commonly multidimensional spaces and may consist of a vast amount of data. Therefore searching costs, including IO-cost and CPU-cost, ar...
